This morning I was scrolling on TikToc, and something caught my eye. It was a video of a runDisney race. As I watched it, all I could think about was my long forgotten goal of running a 5K. As you all know if you’ve read my previous post, I’m currently on a weight loss journey. It’s been up and down, but so far so good. I’ve never been a runner. I hated gym in school, and I always felt like I couldn’t run. It just wasn’t for me.
I’ve heard of runDisney before – but I don’t know. This time things felt different. After pouring myself a cup of coffee, I went online and did some research. And I was shocked. They have full training guides! Full guides! I couldn’t believe it. And it wasn’t like the Couch-to-5K program either. (Tried it…. and it didn’t work for me.) The runDisney guide seemed easy to get started, and even attainable. Could I do this?…
After reading about runDisney and the training plan, I decided to give it a try. If it didn’t go well, or it seemed too unattainable, I would just stick to my morning walks. The runDisney website it linked here, and the program pdf for the 5K is linked here too. If you want to check it out and get inspired like me, please click those thinks. I swear its not sponsored.
I figured out the first day while lacing up my running shoes. I’ve been walking for 30 minutes every day or so, and that was the first step. So I was ready to begin adding some light jogging. I’ve put the first day plan below incase you want to follow along and get started with me.
runDisney 5K Training Plan – Day 1
- Warm Up:
- Walk for 3 Minutes
- Run for 5-10 Seconds, Walk remaining time for 1 minute, repeat for 7 minutes
- Main Run:
- Run 10-20 seconds, Walk remaining time for 1 minute, repeat for 10 minutes
- Cool Down:
- Jog slowly on and off, taking as many walk breaks as possible, for 10 minutes
- Walk for 3-5 minutes
This might not seem like the hardest thing in the world, but I think that’s the point. It’s a starting point. I could complete this. I was able to complete this. Not easily though. I was a sweating fool and I had to catch my breath towards the end. But it is possible. This is coming from someone that has never ran in her life. And has failed every time I’ve tried.
Other programs were difficult to start and seemed to begin beyond my abilities. No beef against Couch-to-5K either, I know it’s worked for so many people, it just wasn’t for me. But I’m so excited to have this program, and for the first time, I’m excited to run. I’m already planning on getting up a bit earlier so I can get in a run before work on Thursday.
I don’t exactly have a goal for when I want to run a 5K. I just want to take this program day by day and run by run. If I need to repeat a week, I’m going to. I’m excited for everything that this program has to offer, and I’ll make sure to keep you updated on how my journey is going.
Let me know if you are also on a weight loss journey, or if you are just a Disney fan like me looking for something different in your workout routine. I would love to talk to you, and make a supportive community.
Until next time… Happy Tuesday!
